Descendant of maolbhreanainn' (servant of st. brendan); the name (1) of a family of siol muireadhaigh who were chiefs of clann choncobhair, or clan connor, in the present co. roscommon, and were seated in the parish of baslick, near ballintobber; and (2) of a family of ui eachach muaidhe in tirawley, co. mayo. it has in some places been corrupted to Ó maoilbhreanaill and Ó maoilbhréana, (Sloinnte Gaedheal is Gall )
