Descendant of Éanna' (enda); also written Ó hÉinne; the name (1) of a family of ui fiachrach who were formerly proprietors of imleachloisce, in co. mayo: (2) of an eoghanacht family in the present co. limerick; and (3) of a dalcassian family in thomond. this last-named family produced several distinguished ecclesiastics, two of whom, donald (1098) and matthew (1206), filled the see of cashel, and one, connor, that of killaloe. connor died while returning from the fourth general council of lateran. this surname is to be distinguished from Ó hÉinigh, (Sloinnte Gaedheal is Gall )
